Dear Entrepreneur,
It’s me, Christina. I’d like to preface this post by noting that I’m really good at a lot of things, but talking about myself is not one of them. So bear with me through this if you get bored with all of this me, me, me…
I’ve been working in an office since I was 15. My parents owned a cleaning business when I was a kid, and if I wanted to go somewhere, I had to help get the work done. So I did. Only I didn’t clean. I hate cleaning. I opted for the office. Since then, I’ve worked in every industry and with all sorts of different kinds of people. I’ve done general administrative things as well as things like marketing, event coordination, and party planning. I’ve even worked with quite a few celebrities. While I don’t want to age myself here, a quarter of a century in office administration is kind of a big deal. And also the primary reason for my big butt. As are my friends Ben and Jerry. Perhaps you know them?
There I go, digressing already. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I’ve pretty much done it all. From reception to executive assistant to business owner and chief bathroom cleaner (you didn’t really think you were the only one that cleaned your own office bathroom did you?) I can handle it. Angie’s amazed by my ability to let difficult clients roll off of my back. She’s obviously never raised teenage girls. After what my little darlings put me through, I’m pretty confident that nothing a client throws my way will rattle me.
I’m also not bothered by cursing, which is apparently an issue many virtual assistants have. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked how I feel about flying F-bombs, I’d be rich. Truth is, I feel like they’re just words and like my mom always said, words can’t hurt me. It’s not unlike me to let ‘em rip with the best of them (in an appropriate environment of course) and then show up in church on Sunday and chat with the pastor. I’m versatile like that. If you think you’re too difficult to be a great client, ask me to help. I’m not scared.
Back to my skills – I write for many of my clients. I’m naturally gifted with things like spelling and grammar and punctuation. I get irritated when someone uses the incorrect form of “two,” “too,” or “to.” Or when they don’t know which (not to be confused with “witch”) “their” they’re talking about. Or those who write “where” instead of “were.” It gives me anxiety. I used to spell antidisestablishmentarianism for fun. When I was in fourth grade, I even won a spelling bee. Unfortunately it was the day we left Florida to move to New York. I never got my trophy. I’m still kind of mad. I think I might call after I’m done with this blog post and see if they can send me one anyway.
I also geek out over bookkeeping. I can do payroll manually. I haven‘t once hired someone to do my taxes. However, ask me to do algebra and I’ll cry. Proudly, I haven’t ever used it once in my life. (I TOLD YOU SO, ninth-grade math teacher!) My English teachers loved me. My math teachers…not so much. My art teacher gave me detention once because I told him that he should read his attendance book because I wasn’t answering to “Christine” ever again. I was a feisty one. I still kind of am…
Sorry…more digressing.
Just when you thought this post was going to be all about me, here’s the part where we get to you. I like a challenge. If you think you’re difficult, tell Angie to hook you up with me. I can write your blog posts, do your books, plan your event, book your flights, manage your calendar, and clean out your email list. I’ll give you a kick in the butt when you need it and be your biggest cheerleader when you need that too. I’m smart, savvy, and all-around great at what I do. We could make a fabulous team, you and I. What have you got to lose?
Sincerely,
Christina | Virtual Assistant | Grammar Geek | Problem Solver
