Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the eBay marketplace can really allow you to reach more customers in more places than you could imagine. Whether your product is cookbooks, airplanes, or janitorial services, it sells on eBay. Think I’m kidding? Do a simple search for anything in the world. You could search “Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich’’ on eBay and come up with results. (Hopefully no one is actually selling a PB&J sandwich, but it’s possible. I did once see a piece of burned toast that resembled Elvis.)

  1. Selling your products on eBay brings you a larger audience. A MUCH larger audience. Even if you live on a dead end road in the middle of a cornfield, eBay exposes your products to the same number of people you’d reach if you had a store right in the middle of Manhattan. And no one will know you’re having a bad hair day! Pro tip: When you ship your item, simply include your business card so they can go directly to your website and skip the middle man next time.
  2. In many cases, you can make more money on eBay than you can in a brick and mortar store. I prefaced this with “in many cases” because if you’re charging Beverly Hills prices for dollar store items, you’re not likely to get paid more on eBay than you would in Beverly Hills. However, because your audience is so broad, you have the potential to reach consumers with deeper pockets in places like Beverly Hills. If you sell a great product that’s worth the money but live in a financially depressed area, you’ll have no problem getting what it’s worth in an online marketplace.
  3. People like the chase. The cool thing about eBay is that it’s like a game. People like to think they’re beating the next guy out of something.  Bidders will actually end up paying more than they would have if they bought your product in the store because it’s human nature to want to “win.” However, the biggest winner here is you.

But Ang…I don’t know the first thing about selling on eBay!
